Defending champions Tupapa Panthers suffered a shocking loss to a resurgent Titikaveka Bulldogs on day one of the League Nines in Paradise tournament at the National Stadium in Nikao on Friday.

The Panthers went down to the Bulldogs 10-15 in their first match of the tournament. The Bulldogs lead Pool A and are through to the semi-finals today with two wins after thrashing Arorangi Bears 2 28-0 in their first match.

In the other open men’s matches, Avatiu Nikao Eels defeated Ngatangiia Sea Eagles 18-10. The Sea Eagles went down fighting to Arorangi Bears 1 9-11 in an exciting clash earlier.

In the women’s competition, defending champions Lady Bulldogs made a good start to their campaign beating Lady Bears 8-0. The Lady Bears and Lady Panthers clash ended in a 4-all draw.

In the lone U18 match, Panthers defeated Bears 25-4.

The tournament ends today. Entry fee is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
