Avatiu’s Aretere Park witnessed a sensational clash in round two of the 2024 Rarotonga football season as Puaikura trounced Avatiu 7-1 in the Premier Men’s Division over the weekend.

Both teams initially showcased solid defensive maneuvers, thwarting each other’s offensive efforts in the clash held on Saturday.

Avatiu drew first blood in the 23rd minute, but Puaikura’s relentless attack saw them net seven unanswered goals, clinching their second consecutive win of the season.

In other Premier Men’s Division matches, Matavera-Ngatangiia cruised to a comfortable 5-0 win over a depleted Nikao Sokattak at the CIFA Complex in Matavera. On Friday, Tupapa Maraerenga asserted their dominance with a commanding 4-0 triumph over Titikaveka at the CIFA Complex.

In the Senior Women’s Division, Avatiu and Puaikura battled to a stalemate, with both sides displaying robust defensive strategies that concluded in a goalless draw. Matavera-Ngatangiia’s women overcame a youthful Nikao Sokattak side, securing a 2-0 victory. On Thursday in an intense encounter at the CIFA Complex, Tupapa Maraerenga’s ladies in black emerge victorious with a solid 2-0 win over Titikaveka.

The second round also delivered a series of riveting encounters across the U18 Men, U15 Boys and Girls, and Mix Divisions. The U18 Men’s matches were a masterclass in skill and teamwork, with teams showcasing tactical brilliance and standout performances. The U15 Boys exhibited remarkable energy and competitive fervor, engaging in fiercely contested battles that highlighted their burgeoning talent and dedication. The U15 Girls put on impressive displays of coordination and resilience, underlining the bright future of women’s football.

In the Mix Divisions, young talents from U12, U10, U8, and U6 categories brought infectious enthusiasm to the pitch. The U12 Mix games were characterised by strategic play and teamwork, while the U10 Mix matches spotlighted the participants’ budding skills and zeal. The U8 Mix fixtures brimmed with excitement and spirited efforts, and the youngest stars in the U6 Mix division delighted the crowd with their passion and growing abilities.
