Father and daughter Paul and Manine Lynch were one of the many success stories from week one of the 2022 Cook Islands Games.

The duo took part in the weightlifting competition earlier this week at the National Auditorium.

National weightlifter Manine Lynch represented Manihiki in the 87kg+ Open weight division and won gold with a total lift of 193 kilograms (113kg clean and jerk and 80kg snatch).

Her father 58-year-old Paul Lynch competed for Rarotonga in the Masters +45 division and also won gold.

Paul’s total lift was 121kg (71kg clean and jerk and 50kg snatch).

“It was exciting to watch Manine win gold and it was extra special then to go next and have a chance to compete for and win a gold medal. Thank you to the Lord and to our fellow competitors, officials, volunteers and supporters for making these Cook Islands Games a huge success,” Paul said.
