Netball season gets underway with open grade clashes

The Rarotonga Netball Club competition got underway this week with the open grade games held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Takuvaine hosted Avatiu and won both the open 1 and 2 matches by 29-23 and 23-12, respectively.

Tupapa Maraerenga Netball Club defeated Ngatangiia/Matavera Eastern Stars 32-18 in the open 2 match.

Arorangi Netball Club hosted Titikaveka Netball Club winning the open 1 match 30-12 and lost the open 2 clash 20-27.

The remaining round one games will be held today, starting at 11am.

Takuvaine will host Avatiu, Tupapa Maraerenga Netball Club will host Ngatangiia/Matavera and Arorangi Netball Club will take on Titikaveka Netball Club at Arorangi courts.

Netball Cook Islands secretary Tekura Moekaa said they had a “okay” start to season with clubs clicking back into netball.

“Netball been kept alive by junior players with all clubs able to field junior teams.

“There’s competition against other codes in preparation for Pacific Games.”
