Mangaia maintains healthy lead in Cook Islands Games opens medal tally

The much-anticipated boxing, football and beach volleyball events in the 2022 Cook Islands Games started on day eight yesterday.

The beach volleyball began in the morning at the National Beach Courts in Nikao, football kicked off at midday in Matavera and boxing got underway at the National Auditorium last night.

Cricket and table tennis events also started yesterday. All these events alongside lawn balls, tennis and touch rugby will continue today.

As of 9am yesterday, Mangaia maintained its lead in the overall open medal tally with 28 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze medals and 199 points. Aitutaki is placed second with 12 gold, 22 silver and 15 bronze medals (141 points) followed by Atiu with 14 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals (116 points).

Beach Volleyball (Nikao Beach Courts): 11am - 4pm, Boxing (National Auditorium) : 5pm - 9pm, Cricket (Matavera/Ngatangiia) : 10am - 5pm, Football (CIFA Academy) : 12pm - 5.30pm, Lawn Bowls (Rarotonga Bowling Club) : 5.30pm - 7.30pm, Table Tennis (National Indoor Arena) : 12.30pm - 7.30pm, Tennis (Nikao Tennis Courts) : 9am - 6pm, Touch Rugby (National Stadium) : 4pm - 8pm.
