Letter: Sheraton ‘land bank’

Dear Editor, The thing most clear about Tim Arnold’s explanation of the historical decisions about the Sheraton is it’s all about the money (‘Pa Ariki acted in good faith, Crown must follow suit’, Cook Islands News, November 18). He didn’t deny she (Pa Ariki) received payments; he is arguing she didn’t receive enough money.

For a lawyer who has been paid off in title land I can see how the pay day is attractive to argue the point. What he didn’t recap was the decision to put the land in Pa Ariki name because it is a title that represents all the people and family lines connected to the land. Never have the people received any money from the payments made for the Sheraton land and never will they receive any of the millions Tim Arnold wants to claim. This is a land bank to her and him nothing more or less. The people do not matter that is who we are dealing with. A person who sees money as more important than anything or anyone else.
