The stockpile of car wrecks on Rarotonga has just been added to following more weekend incidents on the island.

An overnight crash in Avatiu on Friday left Police with more mess to clean up in a weekend which also saw visitors locked up for fighting.

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at 12.26am on Saturday near the meeting house.

A rental car was described by Police as a write-off and a pickup truck also reported to be heavily damaged.

The 44-year-old male driver of the rental was arrested for excess alcohol – 810 micrograms per litre of breath - and careless driving.

The limit is 250mcg.

He was one of several arrests made by Police over the weekend - a long weekend - which had already produced a long list of charges by Saturday morning.

All those arrested overnight on Friday were bailed to appear in court on Saturday.

Among them were three women, who were locked up after being involved in an incident in town, early Friday morning.

Police were called to that incident in the car park area between Rehab Nightclub and the Empire Cinema at 12.35am.

The women, aged, 20, 21, and 27, were said to be intoxicated, aggressive, and abusive.

Their charges included common assault, wilful damage, and assaulting a Police Officer.

All three visitors were forced to miss their return flight to New Zealand with their family members.

A further arrest case involved the driver of a vehicle, which crashed in Takuvaine on Friday night.

Police were called at 9.30pm after a car had crashed into a rock.

The 30-year-old male driver tested at 800mcg/L and was remanded until court on Saturday to face charges.
