Infrastructure Cook Islands secretary Elizabeth Wright-Koteka confirmed work commenced in March and it was hoped that it would be completed this week.
“It is thought that this can improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and parking,” Wright-Koteka said.
“In designing this work, consultation has been had with the people using the area, including the businesses and the vaka community.”
The work was budgeted as additional works related to the upgrading of the Empire Theatre Bridge with Landholdings carrying out the construction.
Wright-Koteka confirmed it was a staged project with ICI set to start sealing the parking area in the vicinity of Raro Fried Chicken in the coming months.
