Cook Islands Investment Corporation (CIIC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) have advised staff, students, visitors and key stakeholders about the closure.
CIIC said the closure would enable both agencies to carry out urgent remedial works relating to issues identified in a recent assessment at the Ngatangiia campus.
Remedial works include structural, electrical, and plumbing upgrades to enhance safe, comfortable, and fit for purpose learning environment. “Remedial works are expected to commence in the next few days, after final scoping is completed, which could only be done after closing the site,” a spokesperson said.
Local building contractors and trade experts have been engaged to carry out these upgrades which are expected to be completed by September 30, (subject to weather and availability of materials).
The cost would be determined after final scoping is completed, in the next few days, the spokesperson said.
Alternative working and learning arrangements have been made for continuity of learning. Current courses that have had alternative plans made include: Level 3 Cookery, Continuing Education (community education programmes) and Dual Pathways (Level 1 Hospitality). All impacted courses are being delivered from alternative venues. Ngatangiia campus staff relocated to Arorangi CITTI campus. The works formed part of CIIC and the Ministry of Education pipeline of works.
CIIC and the MoE thanked all students, staff, and key stakeholders in advance for their understanding, patience, and cooperation.
For any queries relating to learning arrangements, CITTI students can call 21471, and any queries relating to infrastructure matters, can be answered by CIIC on 29391.
