St Joseph’s Primary School students have been receiving some timely teaching lessons from visiting New Zealander Tyler Thompson who donated a box of new books for the school.

School principal Savenaca Tukitoba says Tyler has been with St Joseph’s for the past couple of weeks volunteering to help children with their reading.

Tukitoba said her parents brought the books which were donated by Oruaiti School, a small country school in North Island, New Zealand.

He said the books have been distributed to each class.

“She came to our school through Ruth Macquarie, our Year 5 teacher, and this is the first time we received a donation from Tyler and also from Oruaiti School,” Tukitoba said.

“We would like to acknowledge the staff and students of the school as well and of course Tyler’s parents for our children’s books.”

Tukitoba said Tyler will be on the island until the end of July.

Meanwhile, Apii St Joseph’s term two activities include the Rising Stars Championship which started yesterday where students are taking part in rugby (both males and females) and netball.

The school is also planning to take part in the Tangi Kaara drumming competition, and Tukitoba said they would like to send a team to compete in the primary category.
