Koutu Nui elects new executives, discuss key national issues

Four new members were sworn in at the Koutu Nui 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday morning at Palmerston House.

During the two-day meeting which concluded yesterday, the members were to discuss the new Immigration Regulations, the Investment Code (foreign investment) in areas reserved for Cook Islanders, UNESCO World Heritage, Kopapa Reo Maori – Maori Language Committee update and other pertaining issues.

The Koutu Nui is a traditional organisation consisting of the Aronga Mana (traditional leaders) of the Cook Islands. It was established by an amendment in 1972 of the 1966 House of Ariki Act.

The 2023 Koutu Nui Elects Office Bearers: President Paroro Mataiapo - Rongo Preston; Vice President (x2) Tautu Mataiapo - James Heather and Tiori Rangatira - Nooroa Teina; Secretary Kauono o Te Tika Mataiapo - Philomena Williams; Treasurer TePa  Mataiapo - Imogen Ingram; Te Au o Tonga representatives Araiti Mataiapo - Elizabeth Ponga and Pi Mataiapo - Tenga Mana; Puaikura representatives Kaena Mataiapo - Taramana Tipokoroa and Tiikura Mataiapo - Tai Adamson; Takitumu representatives Itaata Mataiapo - Noeline Browne and Koia Rangatira - Joe Manuel; Pa Enua representative Ratia Mataiapo - Ngatupuna Mo’o from Mauke.
