Tourism operator facing trespass charge free to leave Cook Islands

A tourism operator facing a charge of wilful trespass, and undergoing ongoing assessment with Te Marae Ora in relation to the charge, has been given permission by the court to travel overseas.

The man who has name suppression, appeared in the Criminal Court on Thursday before Justice of the Peace Nadine Newnham.

His lawyer Tai Nicholas said his client is still undergoing assessment with Doctor Evangelene Daniela-Wong.

Nicholas said he had a copy of the first assessment and more time was needed for another assessment.

He requested the matter be adjourned to November so a formal report could be presented.

The defendant operated a tourism venture which required him to travel to New Zealand, Nicholas said.

Nicholas asked if he could be allowed to travel.

JP Newnham granted the defendant permission to travel and asked that an itinerary be provided to the court.

The matter was adjourned to December 14.
