Aaron Paenui Tangapiri appeared before Justice of the Peace Nadine Newnham at the Criminal Court in Avarua on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving
According to the summary of facts, read out in Court, the incident occurred on January 24, 2023 at Avarua.
Tangapiri was told by the Court that he was likely facing a reparations bill of about $18,000 for crashing the vehicle.
The matter was adjourned until April 18 for a probation report to proceed, along with a final agreement over reparations to be considered. Tangapiri was remanded on bail.
Meanwhile, another man has had to pay more than $6800 in reparations after crashing into a car near a service station.
Te Reipa Bernard Williams appeared before JP Newnham on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving
In the incident, which took place on January 17, 2023 about 5.35pm, Williams was driving towards KAPs Matavera when he got distracted and crashed into another car. He was subsequently breath-tested, but recorded no alcohol.
JP Newnham fined Williams $100 in Court costs, and ordered him to pay $6834 in reparations to the victim.
