Sokattak into final after big semis win

Nikao Sokattak will take on Tupapa Maraerenga in the Knockout Cup premier men’s final this weekend after a huge win in the semi-finals over the weekend.

The Sokattak smashed Matavera 10-1 in the second semi-final on Saturday at CIFA Complex to book a date with Tupapa Maraerenga in this Saturday’s showdown.

Tupapa overcame Puaikura 4-2 in the other semis held on Friday.

In the women’s semis, Tupapa Maraerenga FC thumped Avatiu FC 5-0 while Puaikura FC overcame Matavera FC 1-0 on Saturday.

In the men’s semis on Saturday, Nikao Sokattak took control of the game from the start, it was clear that they were there to claim victory.

Within the first few minutes of the game, Sokattak’s goal scoring machine Julius David got the opener through a bicycle kick that shook the grandstand and had fans on their toes cheering.

Marc Leito extended the lead to 2-0 almost immediately. It took a while before Nikao scored again, as Matavera was determined for a comeback in the match.

Matavera’s forward Daryl Areaii gained many chances to score but Nikao defenders Maeva Mateariki and Alfred Ngire stood tall.

Nikao’s unstoppable duo maintained their devastating form, scoring three more goals for a 5-0 lead before Matavera pulled one back before the halftime break.

Nikao continued their superb performance in the second spell, scoring five more to win 10-1.

On Friday, Tupapa Maraerenga took down Puaikura 4-2 in a dominant performance.

The senior women’s match between Tupapa Maraerenga and Avatiu ended in a 5-0 score, with Tupapa Maraerenga taking control of the game. Kuramaeva Tare scored the opening two goals in the first 20 minutes of the match before veteran Elizabeth Harmon extended the lead to 3-0 through a spot kick.

Young Adriana Hauser was determined to score goals in the second half, but Avatiu’s Susan Williams and Kataraina Piri fought hard and well to prevent more goals, but Hauser eventually had her way scoring two goals to seal Tupapa’s 5-0 win.

Puaikura and Matavera battled on Thursday for a spot in the final. Puaikura came out victorious in the last few minutes of the game, when their winger Simone Nicholas headed a ball from a corner kick right to the back of the net in the last five minutes of the game.
