Youth Olympians head to Singapore

Carry the nation’s flag with honour and perform at your best.

These were some of the words of encouragement conveyed to the Cook Islands Youth Olympic team that departed our shores yesterday for Singapore.

The youth Olympic team of 18 athletes and seven officials will represent the country at the first ever Youth Olympics in Singapore between August 14 and 26.

Team Cook Islands to Singapore are: swimming siblings Celeste and Aaron Brown accompanied by Aquatic Cook Islands president Romani Katoa, handball team Aurand Tou, Cruz Robati, Gerald Piho, Mana Ngaau, Munokoa Elikana, Neilsen Tera, Peter Kermode, Peter Tuaratini, Reed Cowan, Tangimetua Tangimetua, Tapi Mataora, Te Koyo Tai Nimeti, Terence Munro, Volunteer Tokorangi and team officials Shawnrowan Numa-Fatialofa and Makiroa Mitchell-John, sailors Aquila Tatira, Teau McKenzie and officials Anne Tierney and Grand Poiri.

Chef de mission George Hosking will be assisted by administration officer Siniva Marsters.

The sailors and handball team will join up with the Brown swimming siblings on their way to Singapore.
