Last week’s postponed youth athletics competition will be held today at the BCI Stadium in Nikao. The athletics meet will run every fortnight as a lead up to the International Athletics Day commemoration on May 12.
Today’s competition will include five track and field events for athletes in the under 18, under 16, under 14 and under 12 age categories.
Each week the athletics disciplines will change to give kids the opportunity to compete in the various track and field disciplines. The events to be this week is the 100m sprints, long jump, discus throw, 400m race and shot put.
The fortnightly competition will also second as a talent spotting event for Athletics Cook Islands who are keen to develop the skills of aspiring athletes.
The first athletics competition on Wednesday March 3 starts at 5pm with the 100m sprints and wraps up at 6.30 with the shot put event.
