Cook Islands Rugby League and Cook Islands News have joined forces in backing next months Kiwis versus Kukis test match.

CINews has signed up as a supporting sponsor of the one-off test match between the Cook Islands and the New Zealand international rugby league squads.

The newspaper will also continue to bring breaking news and coverage on the match in the lead up to and after the October 6 match.

CINews managing editor John Woods said the newspaper was eager to give its support to the test match.

This is a magic, special event. Its just awesome to see players of NRL calibre play here, Woods said.

League is a worthy, significant code that needs support to make this fabulous event happen. Its also a bit of a healthy distraction from the rugby union mania happening around the time theyre coming over here, he said.

The Cook Islands representative squad will call on the nations best league players from the ranks of the NRL and its associated under-20 competition the Toyota Cup.

The match will be New Zealands first chance to play as one before the summers Four Nations tournament scheduled to be played in the United Kingdom later this year.

New Zealand will play against teams from Australia, England and Wales in the competition, which begins in late October and ends on November 19.

This years Four Nations will be the last before 2013s World Cup for the sides.

There they will face 10 other nations, including the Cook Islands, for the Rugby League World Cup.
