Williams hits the water

Cook Islands sailor Helema Williams has hit the water – new sail and all – as she gets in some much needed practice ahead of her Olympic opener on Monday.

Based in Weymouth as a part of the Laser Radial class, Williams is working hard to ensure her boat is ready come race day.

The chance to get on the water amongst some 8-10 knot winds was too good not to be taken up, as four short, 30-minute races between 18 boats made for a good two-and-a-half hours of practice.

It was then back to the games village for a rest before hitting the gym at 6pm to continue what has become a good routine for the Manihiki sailor.

The opportunity to see what the Cook Islands flagbearer’s sail looks like was also too good not to be missed after the official sail was used for the training practice.

Williams has plenty on her plate in the final days before competition starts on Monday July 30, including a boat inspection before a four-hour trip to London on Friday for the opening ceremony.
