Young boys sprint like the wind during yesterdays annual Kumete athletics sport day at the BCI Stadium in Nikao.
The inter village athletics competition didnt attract hordes of people from all the villages but a strong showing of athletes were seen from the villages of Arorangi, Avatiu-Nikao and Tupapa with a handful of diehard Titikaveka supporters like aunty Pepe Matenga representing the village.
The lack of numbers didnt stop the fun though as athletes ran, threw and jumped their way to earning points for their village.
In the end the Avatiu-Nikao village were crowned the 2011 Kumete Sports champ ions closely followed by Arorangi.
Cook Islands News will bring you more photos and the full results from Saturdays Kumete cycle and Kumete sports on Monday in tomorrows paper.
