Urlich ‘on fire’ at Prime Foods golf

Jacqueline Urlich was on fire and really burned up the golf course last Saturday to be the easy winner of the inaugural Prime Foods golf tournament at the Rarotonga Golf Club.

Playing off a handicap of 22, she carded an 80 off the stick for a score of +11 in this bogey competition.

She may well have benefitted from playing in a group that included senior golfer Daniel Webb, but her general game was her best ever.

She certainly won’t be playing off a 22 this Saturday in the Computer Man tournament.

It was altogether a good day on the golf course in spite of the oppressive heat and humidity.

Also having a great day on the course last Saturday were Tiki Daniel and Ngatupuna Manuela Jnr who both finished with a +8.

They were followed by Paara Pitomaki (+6), Vaine Tairi (+6), Phil (Ipa) Urlich (+6), Royle Brogan (+5), Lynn Webb (+5), Apii William (+5), and Ake Tereia (+4).

There were several others on +4 but Ake got there on a count-back.

Best round from the men was Ngatupuna Manuela Jnr with a gross of 69 and Lynn Webb was the best of the ladies with a 78.

Dual gold medallist from the 2009 Pacific Mini Games, Kirk Tuaiti, had the longest drive of the men, while Tania Karati was the longest of the ladies.

We are very grateful to the generous sponsorship from Prime Foods for this competition and look forward to more of the same.

All players are vying for a spot on the team to go to New Caledonia this year for the Pacific Games so none of the top players can really afford too many high scoring games.

This Saturday’s Computer Man tournament will attract another good field and the tee time list is filling up fast because we all know the Computer Man always has a great prize on offer.

So hurry and put your name down if you want to compete.

Members are reminded that fees are now past due and if you are not fully financial you cannot be considered for a prize.

Any non-financial members should be paying green fees every time they play.

Good luck to all golfers this Saturday.
