In torrential rain the Avatiu Eels under 13 dominated the Arorangi Cowboys to comprehensively win the Avarua Bakery under 13 rugby grade grand final 50-19.

But the Cowboys were no easy beats for the Eels as the boys from the wild west played the right tactics with a good kick and chase game and keeping the scores to 12-all at the half time break.

The second half of the match was a Mark Leito and Doom Ponini show as these two brilliant Eels individuals scored seven tries between them.

Congratulations to the baby ‘monster’ Eels and their coaching staff lead by Peter Taripo in remaining undefeated in 2012.

The Cowboys and their coaching staff must also be congratulated on not only a fantastic effort in wet conditions but for the club’s continued commitment in age grade rugby development.

This all bodes well for the future of rugby union in the Cook Islands.

Congratulations also go to all the clubs that fielded under 13 teams for the 2012 season – see you all again on the field in 2013.
