The heavens opened and rain looked to threaten round five of the Edgewater Womens Saturday premier competition in which Turangi hosted Avana at the Oval and Matavera and Muri continued their cricketing rivalry on the Takitumu field.
When rain showers cleared Turangi went out to bat looking to post a big total against their neighbours Avana.
Margaret Tuaputa dominated with the bat, playing some beautiful strokes on her way to 29 runs, with Grace Rea in support on 20 runs.
Best for the Avana bowlers was Margaret Simiona with two wickets and conceding just 11 runs off her three overs to restrict the home team to 115.
In reply, Avana were in all sorts of trouble with Turangis Daisy Ama doing the damage taking four wickets for just four runs to have Avana all out for 65 runs, securing a good victory for Turangi.
At the Takitumu field, Matavera players were looking for revenge after their mid week loss to Muri last Wednesday.
Batting first, Mataveras Benedicta Matapo looked to score big with shots all around the park, and topped scoring with 35 runs.
Good bowling from Muris Tauhere Putua taking two wickets for nine runs restricted Mataveras total to 82.
Putua featured again with the bat, scoring 19 runs in a women-of-the-match performance, giving Muri a seven-wicket victory and top of the table honours with one round to go.
All Edgewater Womens mid-week and Saturday morning premier teams are asked to send representatives to the Womens Council of Clubs meeting at the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Commitee (CISNOC) premises this evening from 5pm.
