In the Lotto Premier Mens game played in the weekend Tupapa Maraerenga defeated Nikao Sokattak by one goal to nil.
In the first fifteen minutes of the match Tupapa dominated possession and created two goal scoring opportunities, but did not manage to convert these into goals.
For the rest of the first half the two teams were evenly matched in all facets of play and found it difficult to find the back of the net and this resulted in a half time of nil-all.
The match which had all the ingredients of a cup final picked up pace in the second half with both teams throwing everything at the oppositions defence.
At times only the brilliance of the two goal keepers Romeo Keu of Nikao Sokattak and Tony Jamieson of Tupapa kept the ball out of the net.
It was not until the seventy sixth minute when left winger Paavo Mustonen latched onto a through ball from the mid field and squared the pass back into the eighteen yard area for speedy striker Campbell Best who blasted the ball past the Nikao goal keeper for the first and only goal of the match.
Overall it was an exciting match backed up by loyal vocal supporters of the two best premier mens teams on the island.
In the CIPS Image & Copy Centre womens competition Tupapa Maraerenga blew Nikao Sokattak away by scoring five unanswered goals.
