Friday 7: Tupapa have retained the Coca-Cola trophy after a tough battle against Arorangi on Wednesday which they won 12-0.
In a 5-minute try scoring burst just before halftime, Tupapa were able to post their winning 12 points. The tries were scored by nuggety hooker John Vano and speedy winger Richard Vainerere – with a conversion from centre Stubby Kamana.
In probably their toughest match to date, Tupapa were able to win this one 12-nil against a persistent Arorangi Cowboys pack.
With the Cowboys having wind and territorial advantage in the second half, they created enough opportunities but were unable to post points against a valiant Tupapa defence.
Best for the Cowboys were skilled first five-eighth Robert Heather and energetic hooker MacKenzie Karati.
For Tupapa it was a good team effort with the hardworking number 8 Eric Newbigging outstanding as usual.
The final Coca-Cola challenge will be against Avatiu on Wednesday August 19.
Meanwhile visiting UK college Wellington College will be playing two rugby and netball games today at Raemaru Park starting at 12pm.
