Tri cycle race

The Triathlon Association’s cycle races start today at 5pm outside Raviz Restaurant.

There will be five events - two at 16km distance, two at 20km and one 31 km round island event. Depending on interest, Triathlon may adjust the programme to have a drafting race around the island as well.

The start outside Raviz will be on the inland side of the road. Racers will head towards Arorangi to the 8km mark where competitors turn and head back to town, finishing at the same spot on the seaward side of the road.

A handicap sheet for the first week will be drawn up beforehand so that slower cyclists start with a time advantage over the speedier competitors. Start gaps will be multiples of 30 seconds between riders.

The Triathlon Association is grateful to Westpac Banking Corporation for sponsoring these events and prizes to a total of $1000 will be spread over the 5 weeks. The prizes are cycling gear and similar accessories.
