Track champs still buzzing

Rarotonga primary school students are still buzzing over a fantastic day of athletics at the Prince of Wales competition on Wednesday.

Avarua School was successful in retaining the coveted trophy with a total of 954 points with arch rivals Avatea coming in second with 690 points and Catholic school St Joseph’s taking out third with 500 points.

Fourth place went to Nikao with 292 points, 5th Takitumu School with 276 points, 6th Te Uki Ou with 260 points, 7th Arorangi School with 236 points, 8th Papaaroa College with 185 points, 9th Imanuela Akatemia with 71 points and rounding up in 10th place host school Rutaki with 67 points.

Avarua School also won the first up marching parade.

Mattelina Tepai of Avarua School was crowed pre-school girl champion and helped her school win the pre-school division championship trophy.

Atera Atera of Takitumu School was crowned pre-school boys champion.

Avarua School also won the junior and intermediate division champions trophy.

Avatea School student Tiara Azia Tere was crowned junior girl champion while Albert Nicholas of St Josephs School was named junior boys champion.

Kaia Dearlove of Te Uki Ou School won the Intermediate girls champion trophy and Marcus Pierre of Avarua won the intermediate boys champions trophy.

Konini Rongo was the best of the senior girls division to win the champions trophy while Avatea speedster Mark Leito won the senior boys championship trophy.

Primary school students will make it a team effort this Tuesday with the primary school round the rock relay event starting at 4pm at the Banana Court complex in Avarua.
