Apii Rutaki has never seen the likes of a good Golden Oldies rugby game like the one played there this past Friday.
It started on time and had 4x20 minute quarters and was attended by at least 70 players and even more spectators, cars and utes lining the main road - even a bus so that the town players could have a good time after and not to worry about drink driving, neat eh! Thanks Raro Tours.
Well the game was handled by our top referees, Simi and Fraser, assisted by our own top man General George.
It was fast but most players were well behaved with four women playing, Papa Anau and Papa Pat had good runs with Driver trying his best, Jaws who had taken over the role of calling players off like Pistol Pete and Taua the Mower so that others could have a chance of a game. Instructions have been given to the referees to yellow card those who stay on too long.
Tua Te Reo had a great game by making a few breaks when he had the ball.
Ronnie was on the side trying to out-do ‘The Breeze’ with his still camera and Damien thought he had been in a senior A game after he got off the field.
Anyway after the match we then assembled at the Papua Passage Caf for some fine dining which would give the Tamarind House a go for its money and if ever the five star Sheraton starts up, this would be the main restaurant.
Meitaki maata to the Sharks for a job well done and welcome as our newest team, your hospitality was tremendous.
Next Friday is again in the country at Muri (park) at 4.30pm and hosted by Ngatangiia oldies, Legends with Ngatangiia to supply jerseys so please, Mark don’t be late as your jerseys need airing and another wash.
