Tennis players hit the courts again this week for the school holiday tennis programme run by coach Malcolm Kajer.
Among the group of around 30 primary school tennis players taking advantage of the school holiday programme are first timers, intermediate players who’ve been playing for a year and advanced players looking to improve their already impressive tennis skills.
The holiday programme will run right up to when school starts on January 26 and the after-school tennis programme kicks into action.
At the Nikao tennis courts, Cook Islands News caught up with four budding female players who just love their tennis.
“First up we played four games of prisoner before we worked on our forehand and backhand swing,” says 9-year-old Tiamai Koteka.
Her sister Manamea Kotea (8) says she was really enjoying tennis.
“I love the sport and I really enjoy it,” says Manamea.
Nine-year-old Tiare Enoka says she wants to become a tennis champion one day.
“Tennis is fun and it’s a good sport to play and it keeps you fit,” says Tiare.
“I want to be a champion one day.”
For Nicolette Aumareva (9), tennis is just the best.
“I started playing last year. I came and it was fun,” says Nicolette.
“And now I’ve played heaps of games.”
Parents wanting their children to have as much fun as these budding players can register now for the after school tennis programme or just turn up to the courts today with your kids.
Three separate tennis programmes are run a day by coach Malcolm Kajer and his team of helpers.
For first time players, hour long beginner classes start at 9am, then intermediate players take to the court for their lessons at 1pm and the big boys and girls in the advanced tennis class take over the courts at 3pm.
