The adventures of Mama Mongoose

Local golden oldies rugby player Ake Hosea-Winterflood, also known as Mama Mongoose, had plenty of adventures at the Golden Oldies Rugby Festival in Sydney last month.

But the highlight of her trip, apart from playing five games of rugby, was winning a player of the match trophy from the Thirsty Old Lions team.

Hosea travelled to the festival as an individual player and after playing her first game for the Rugby Women of the World team she then joined the Burnside Blue Heelers side made up of police officers and firemen.

And because her Burnside jersey was delivered late for her first game for her new team – Hosea sported her Avatiu-Nikao Mongoose jersey before her Burnside one arrived.

But before she changed jerseys – a cracker photo of her was taken in her Mongoose jersey and printed in the daily Golden Oldies paper the Late Tackle.

But the caption at the bottom of the photo read ‘Ake Hosea of the Thirsty Old Lions’ – which was the team Hosea and her Burnside team was playing against.

And in true golden oldies spirit – Hosea received a player of the day trophy from the Thirsty Old Lions team.
