Tennis juniors off to Fiji

Local junior tennis players are gearing up to represent the country at the Pacific Oceania Championships next week in Lautoka, Fiji.

The junior players selected for the championships in Fiji were stand-out competitors at the recent East Pacific Qualifying event in Rarotonga.

The squad will depart our shores this weekend for the two week tennis championships in Fiji.

The team is made up of players based here at home and players currently attending school in New Zealand.

Rarotonga based players Kiana Sword-Tua (under 12 girls), Roland Neururer, Jake Bergman (under 14 boys) will be accompanied to New Zealand by team manager Marcel Tua.

In New Zealand they will meet up with the rest of the team including Tayla Beddoes (under 14 girls), Alex Beddoes (under 18 boys) and Tamarua Payne (under 14 boys).

The team will then meet up with their final squad member Elias Tukaroa in Fiji, where he lives.The squad are expected to return home on August 7 – hopefully with medals and trophies.
