The Matavera ‘Hot Eyes’ women’s cricket team can’t wait for the coming season.

The side boasts plenty of young, exciting talent, including their newly appointed captain Bene Matapo.

Matapo at just 19-years-old will be the youngest captain in the Twenty-20 competition.

Her age, according to team manager Elizabeth Tommy, makes the decision even more exciting.

”The team’s decision to appoint Bene was based on her enthusiasm, skills and leadership qualities,“ says Tommy.

Bene has really come of age this year, so for the club it’s not only a sensible decision but an exciting one.“

The young leader will be eager to learn and do the village proud hoping that the long hours of training can be rewarded with a top four finish.

The skipper has received plenty of support, with ten players regularly attending twice weekly training sessions and family and friends chipping in to support the team.

The side is coached by highly regarded Willy Tommy. If you would like to get involved with the Hot Eyes team contact Liz on 74113 or visit Cook Islands Crickets website.
