Cook Islands teams sailing manager Tony Heays reports that the local squad is racing strongly at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Teams Sailing regatta in New Zealand.

Heays says that the local team are doing well and have won nine races from 16 and sitting in the middle bunch of the Bronze Fleet with one more set of round robin races to go.

He says there has been hardly any wind for the last three days except for yesterday when they had and 8 to 9 knots for a couple of hours.

“So a lot of hanging around, with sailing being called off at around 3pm each day,” says Heays.

“At least that gives the guys plenty of time to practice their items for the prizegiving night!”

Heays adds that the local boys are determined to blow the other teams away with their performance.

The team is also being well fed by hosts Cindy and Ross Sutherland in the first week and Heather and Alan Becroft now.

With more winds – the local team of Aquila Tatira, Josh Ioane, Patrick Kaukura, Dean Tetuaiteroi, Duane George and Luke Tukaroa are looking forward to more wins.

The crew is coached by Junior Charlie.
