Currently five Cook Islands athletes have qualified for the London Olympics and four others are waiting to qualify for the pinnacle sporting event to be staged from August 29 to September 9.

At this stage, Team Cook Islands is made up of 100 metre sprinters Patricia Taea and Patrick Tuara, slalom canoeist Ella Nicholas and swimmers Tepaia Payne and Celeste Brown.

National sailors Helema Williams and Taua Elisa are currently competing in the Sail for Gold event in Lymington – close to the Olympic sailing venue in Weymouth.

The two sailors still have a chance for Olympic spots under the Tripartite Commission Invitation.

Final sailing places for the Olympics will be announced on June 18.

Canoeists Josh Utanga and Bryden Nicholas are also waiting to see if they are awarded a wild card to be able to compete at the Olympics.

CISNOC administration officer Siniva Marsters says that she will be having Skype meetings from June 15 to 19 with the London Olympic Games organising committee as well as the International Canoeing Federation to finalise if Utanga and Nicholas will be awarded a wild card based on their recent performances.

Team Cook Islands, including athletes and officials, is expected to be confirmed after June 19 – the final cut off date for awarding wild cards for the London Olympics.
