Easily one of the most star studded sevens sides in the 2010 Sevens in Heaven – the Tauae Bulls mean business this year.

They missed out on the 2009 International Sevens title last year where they had planned to achieve a back to back win after victory in 2008 – but the Johnny come lately Rebels dashed all that by winning the title against the Bulls in the finals.

The Bulls, who’ve been part of the international sevens scene since the early 90s, share the same principles as the local sevens movement and that is to bring some of the big names of rugby to rub shoulders with the locals.

And the biggest name in the squad is debutant All Black Rene Ranger who has been a member of the Bulls since early 2000 and will play for Northland this year.

“We’ve got a couple of young local boys in the team and we want to give that experience to them,” says Ranger.

The team also includes the 2009 International Sevens player of the tournament Winnie Marsters-Whanga of the Waikato team.

Marsters is joined by fellow Bulls regular and Waikato team mate Steve Ketu and Josaan Levien.

Also from Waikato and new to the Bulls this year is Rory Grice with Australian based player tipped to have the fastest pins this tournament Watene Waenga.

The team have taken under their wings three of the island’s rising rugby stars – Eric Newbigging, who has been called up to the Junior Warriors squad, Tatuava Tatuava and Mana Mokoroa.

“We want to take the title home again,” comments Marsters.

Levien adds that the team is also looking to have plenty of fun during the three-day tournament.

So if you a thinking of putting money on a side to take out this year’s title – look no further than the Bulls!

The Bulls team humbly thank the Tupa family of Tauae for their continued support in bringing the Bulls to the sevens and to team wear sponsor Teremaki Temu of Asultwear.
