Auckland based rising Cook Islands tennis player Tamarua Payne has been selected to be part of the ITF Pacific Oceania under18 team to tour Australia in early 2012.
The 15-year-old St Kentigern College student is the son of Kate and Bryn Payne who are currently based in Brunei.
The teenager was selected into the Pacific squad after a standout performance at the Pacific Oceania Junior Champions in Fiji in August where he placed 4th in the under 15 tournament division.
Payne and the Pacific Oceania team will compete at the Margaret Court Teams event, Margaret Court tournament, Victoria Junior grass court championships in Wodonga followed by the Australian Open.
After the Australian tour, Payne is likely to re-join the Cook Islands squad to compete at another tournament in Fiji.
