Despite the postponed game in Nikao, football games went ahead at the Matavera field between hosts Matavera and Takuvaine.
Twenty five minutes into play Takuvaine’s striker Tave Tereapii shot through the sole goal of the match which resulted in a win for Takuvaine over Matavera.
Although the weather conditions were not the best, there were moments of exciting soccer action during this match.
Tereapii of Takuvaine directed play in the mid field and forward area while the defence held up to Matavera’s attack.
Though Takuvaine won this match one goal to nil, Matavera did manage to break the Takuvaine defence through substitutes Danny Williams and Roimata Moetaua but they were unable to strike the ball past the Takuvaine goalkeeper.
In the other premier men’s match played on Friday down at the Avatiu Swamp – Tupapa Maraerenga defeated Avatiu with a 6-1 win.
Campbell Best of Tupapa stamped his mark for his side with a hat trick for his efforts while the other goals were scored by Leo Berlim (2) and Hone Fowler.
Tahiri Elikana scored Avatiu’s only goal late in the game.
In the CIPS Image & Copy Centre women’s championship, Takuvaine’s senior women defeated Matavera by one goal to nil.
Takuvaine managed to score their sole goal early in the first half through Aramoana Mataroa.
Avatiu beat Tupapa Maraerenga by two goals to one on Thursday at the CIFA complex. Youngsters Tekeu Toru and Maeva Poaru scored Avatiu’s two goals while Melanie Wilson scored Tupapa’s sole goal.
Due to a bereavement in the village of Titikaveka, the main match in the Lotto Premiership between hosts Nikao Sokattak and Titikaveka was postponed.
