Tahitians improved

Takitumu under 17 rugby warriors were too strong and fast for their visiting opponents from Tahiti when the local side overpowered the visitors 44-0 at Ngatangiia on Tuesday.

The Takitumu warriors got down to business straight away and by the half time whistle the side was leading 20-0 against the Faa team from Tahiti.

For the past two and a half weeks the Faaa team have taken part in the under 15 college rugby sevens tournament, played rugby 15 matches against a local under 17 city selection (losing 5-29), an under 17 country team (losing 0-52) and the Takitumu invitational on Tuesday.

The visiting team even had a scrum session with International Rugby Board trainer Brian Box OShea.

Although the results have been disappointing for the Tahitian rugby family their team play and the development of their individual skills has improved immensely. The team and club is planning to return in 2012 to take part in the August under 15 college sevens tournament, with the possibility of bringing a senior mens and womens team which is all good for regional development.

We say aere ra and safe travels to Laurent, Francois, Moeata and all the players of the under 17 Faa team who return to Tahiti this afternoon.
