Tackles earth shattering

The golden oldies rugby match played at the Nikao field last Friday was dedicated to the late William Heather Snr, a staunch Arorangi rugby player and supporter.

The game was also used as a warm-up by those challenging the New Zealand parliamentarian rugby team later in the week.

In Wilkie’s team the giant front row of Bobby, Eric and Tang, all standing six-foot-plus and built like brick houses, were also used as battering rams.

Although dwarfed, the opposing front-rowers of Lux, Taiki and Moe held their own in open play and their tackles on the big men were earth shattering.

In the backs – Sonny, Snake, Pete, Alby and disaster-man Carlson were up to the task in containing the hard running school principal Vae, Tony, Tutai, Tok and Chris, the waste disposal expert.

Player of the Day’ went to Dawn, a former touch rep, who was nippy around the scrums and rucks and everywhere in support play.

At the Rose garden after-match, the players and supporters enjoyed the hospitality of the Mongoose.

This Friday the game will be played at the Avatiu field starting at 5pm.
