Swimtastic summer for Raro kids

As Rarotonga children break from school for the summer holidays, you can bet they will be heading straight to the lagoon to stay cool and practise their swimming skills.

Over 120 children from Rutaki Primary School, Papaaroa College and Apii Te Uki Ou brushed up on their swimming skills and water safety awareness through the ‘swimming in schools’ programme delivered by the Cook Islands Aquatic Federation.

The team at Cook Islands Aquatic Federation (CIAF) had plenty of support to deliver the programme, with parents and teachers keen to get in the water and help share the fun and of course drill in water safety messages.

“All the kids have improved, showing great results and confidence in the water,” says CIAF president Romani Katoa.

Katoa and swimming development office Augustine Kopa look forward to next year’s swimming in schools programme starting in term one followed by the Schools Swimming Champs after term one.

The CIAF team wishes everyone a very water safe Christmas and swimtastic New Year.
