St Joes students treated like royalty

St Josephs Primary School principal Sister Celine along with students Tiare Enoka and Melbourne Matakino are Team New Caledonia guests of honour at the Pacific Games in Noumea.

The trio are pictured here with games mascot Joyme at the weightlifting event on Wednesday.

During the 2009 Pacific Mini Games in Rarotonga, St Josephs students and teachers were the cheer squad for Team New Caledonia as part of the adopt a nation programme which saw schools across the Cook Islands adopt a nation to support.

St Josephs went above and beyond what was asked of the schools and for their outstanding support of Team New Caledonia the school was invited to send two students to the Pacific Games as guests of honour and to cheer on their team.

The two young students accompanied by the schools principal have been treated like royalty and accommodated in the games village with New Caledonian athletes.

All three have been given a full kit of New Caledonia gear and have been trooping along to games to support the New Caledonia team as they did in 2009.

Of course the trio have been getting light-hearted ribbings about wearing the wrong colours, but attended Cook Islands events as well.
