Women’s rugby sevens organisers have selected 14 local women for the train-on squad for the Asia Pacific Women’s sevens tournament in Borneo next month.
A final selection will be made next month that will include players from overseas.
The Cook Islands based players selected to train on are Akaiti Purea (Arorangi), Awhitia Pepe (Arorangi), Edith Nicholas (Avatiu), Jamie Gotty (Arorangi), Jannine Meyer (Arorangi), Julieanne Westrupp (Tupapa), Marae Mataroa (Arorangi), Mareta Angene (Tupapa), Maria Tare (Aitutaki), Patricia Taea (Titikaveka), Tai Wichman (Titikaveka), Tarome Urirau (Takuvaine), Toru Mateariki (Avatiu) and Vanea Robati (Tupapa). Non-travelling reserve, due to her wedding the weekend of the competition, is women’s rugby stalwart Vanya Tou. Best wishes Vanz from all your Rugby Sistas!
