Aman Ravindra-Singh says he believes government security forces were behind the attacks because he is acting for dozens of people accused of sedition.
The law society says no matter how unpopular the client’s cause, lawyers are duty bound to act in their clients’ best interests and it hopes the claims of intimidation are taken seriously and investigated by the police.
The society’s Laurel Vaurasi says it is appalling and disgraceful to hear of such conduct.
“We do not agree with any intimidation of whatever sort, for any lawyer that’s representing his clients. I mean no lawyer should be subject to such violence, or intimidation or any such behaviour.”
Vaurasi says members of the Law Society have turned out in support of Ravindra-Singh this week.
Fiji’s acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho has told the Fiji website Fiji Village the police will definitely investigate Ravindra-Singh’s claims.
Earlier he told the Fiji Sun Fiji Police Force he had not received any complaints from the lawyer.
