Slow but steady

Golden oldies rugby got off to a slow start on Friday at the Nikao field but things are sure to pick up today when the golden oldies game kicks off at the papaa time of 5pm at the Avatiu field.

Last week’s game started as a seven-a-side affair for a while as stragglers arrived to make up the numbers for the 15-a-side game.

Referee Takaiti was continually reminding over vigorous players that the game was golden oldies rugby not A grade.

Richard Neves played like he had been training all year round the way he ran all day leaving would-be tacklers in his wake.

Wilkie Rasmussen with ball in hand always drew two or three defenders before off loading to his backs.

As usual Robert Skews in full flight was a handful to stop.

The executives normally lead by example by joining in the game, but this new lot watched from the sideline shouting out to players and referee alike.

The executives continue to call out to those over the age of 35-years to join up to this fun and safe sport for their own health.

The game this Friday is at the Avatiu field kicking off at the papaa time of 5 pm.
