Sharks tangle with Eels at Swamp today

The Avatiu Eels and Aitutaki Sharks rugby league clubs may share a brotherly connection but that will all go out the door at 5.15pm today when they lock horns at the Swamp in Avatiu.

The Eels will be looking to continue their fine form so far this season and maintain their current winning streak while the Sharks will be looking for an upset against their hosts.

Last week the Sharks took it to the Arorangi Bears in a spine tingling first half battle that had the game lead seesaw between the Bears and Sharks as the visitors held their own against the grizzly Bears.

Unfortunately the Sharks were caught napping in the second half when the Bears ran in five unanswered tries to dominate and beat the Sharks.

If the Sharks can repeat their first half performance against the Bears and keep it up for 80-minutes, the Eels will have a long day at the office.

Kick starting this afternoon’s proceedings will be the league masters papas who will take to the field as the curtain raiser match at 4.30pm.

In other games today and tomorrow – the Bears reserve grade will head to Titikaveka to rumble with the Bulldogs and remaining games between these two clubs will be played out on Saturday.

The reserve grade between the Ngatangiia-Matavera Sea Eagles and Takuvaine Warriors will also go head to head today with their game kicking off at 4.45pm at Nukupure Park.

For today’s Eels and Sharks game, league supporters from Teotue to Pokoinu are asked to bring along a pot of food to host the Sharks after the match at 6.30pm. - MW
