Sharks host Goldies

The Rutaki Sharks hosted the golden oldies rugby last Friday.

True to form, the Westies played a physical game, unsettling the touring side.

With the scrum propped by minister Smiley, the home team’s defensive line was impregnable.

Assisted by player-coach Lucky, Johnny rallied his troops and directed Mauken Ta to spin the ball wide.

The strategy paid dividends, as bodybuilder Casper found holes in the defence.

The Brisbane Sunnybank golden oldies including a 76-year-old joined the game.

They exhibited rugby that one would expect from Eales and the Ella bros at the upcoming Sydney event.

General George, leading by example showed his McCaw-like skills, while at centre Isoa provided quality ball for Ake to score.

The three women players never shied away from tackling, even on the stampeding ‘crash-helmet’ Puna.

At the after-match do, MP Marsters presented awards to those who played the game in the golden oldies spirit.

He also received $250 donation from the Sunnybank golden oldies to assist Rutaki School’s computer class.

Again the Sharks’ hospitality was enjoyed by all,

This Friday the game is at Ngatangiia, not Takuvaine as previously advised.

Mongoose and Takitumu are asked to supply the jerseys by 4.30pm.
