Sevens tourney still wide open

No clear winners have emerged yet in this years CITC Constitution Sevens Tournament after a tough first day tournament played yesterday at Tupapa Park.

The finals of the tournament will be played out tomorrow (Saturday) and all teams will need to bring their A game as anyone can win the tournament.

The standout teams on day one were defending champions Aitutaki who thrashed the Dragons 21-0 in the first game of the tournament.

Despite the loss, the Dragons hit back with a tight game to outmuscle the Bulls 26-5.

The Avatiu Eels are also in hot contention for the trophy after a close first up 19-10 win against the Takuvaine Reds who despite the loss are also looking strong.

The Tupapa Panthers and the young Cook Islands Sports Academy team also fielded strong teams for the tournament.

The Arorangi Cowboys were the only team that withdrew from the competition, which heads into the finals on Saturday.

Today, the inaugural Pacific Computers inter-college sevens tournament will be held at the Tupapa field kicking off at 12pm.

The tournament includes boys teams from Titikaveka College, Nukutere College, Tereora College, Rakei Toa and the visiting Faaa Tahiti team.

Also taking to the field in what should be an exciting show of womens rugby will be three girls rugby sevens teams from Titika- veka, Nukutere and Tereora College.

Separate under 17 games will be played between the visiting Tahitian under 17 team and a Rarotonga selection or Barbarian team.

The finals of the tournament will be run on Saturday along with the Constitution Sevens tournament.

Get along to the Tupapa field and support what should be an exciting showcase of age grade rugby.
