Local club rugby players who feel they have what it takes to represent the country in rugby sevens are invited to training this Wednesday.

Rarotonga based assistant coach Vaivase Samania is calling all players to training at the BCI Stadium in Nikao this Wednesday starting at 5.30pm.

The training and trials is open to anyone as rugby gears up for the sevens qualification event in Australia in August.

At the weekend local rugby players from the under 10 Rippa rugby stars right up to the senior A grade played the first games of round one of the club season.

As expected players were still trying to dust out the cobwebs and in the coming weeks – spectators can expect to see more structured plays and players skills and confidence lift.

The Tupapa Panthers, Arorangi Cowboys and Avatiu Eels senior A rugby teams registered wins at the weekend.

The Panthers beat a tenacious Takuvaine Reds team 29-13 while the Arorangi Cowboys dominated the Ngatangiia Dragons to comfortably win the match up 29-0.

At Titikaveka the Avatiu Eels beat the Titikaveka Bulls 29-14.

The second game of the season this weekend will see the Dragons host the Eels at Nukupure Park, the Bulls travel to Victoria Park to meet the Panthers and the Cowboys will head to the Happy Valley to take on the Takuvaine Reds.
