It’s no surprise that the two most well prepared women’s cricket teams dominated proceedings in Saturday’s Edgewater women’s competition.

While Avana had the bye the Arorangi Red Hot Chicks were sensational as the well drilled women’s team racked up 195 runs against Turangi.

Opening pair Diana Tamaiva and Marguerite Dean proved they will be a dangerous opening combination this year as the pair scored 64 and 32 respectively.

Tamaiva’s performance was startling as the national all rounder played the ball about the park with pure ease.

Moeroa Mamanu looked good as she put on an unbeaten 34.

Tamaiva and Dean continued their batting performances with the ball.

Dean collected two wickets for just seven while Tamaiva took two for five from her one over. Turangi were all out for 32 and Arorangi to the top of the table.

Teenager Amelia Moetaua stole the show for the Air Raro Matavera match up against Muri. Moetaua scored 59 runs to help her team to an imposing 175 following it up with four wickets for just two runs.

Cousin Raita Moetaua was also impressive as the youngster chipped in with 34 runs before being stumped by Muri wicket keeper Makiroa Mato.

Despite tough competition from Muri opener Tina Mato, the Matavera bowlers made early inroads into the Muri batting line up.

Captain Bene Matapo was impressive taking two wickets for six runs to have Muri all out for 68.

Despite the loss Muri are to be commended for introducing a number of first timers to their team.

Ever competitive, we can expect tough competition from Muri in their next hit out against Arorangi.
