Secret service callout

Local businessman Piltz Napa is taking advantage of the historic visit by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by raising the issue of movie piracy in the Cook Islands.

Yesterday afternoon Napa hung this poster outside the Empire movie theatre saying the objective is to raise awareness on the rampant piracy of movies in the Cook Islands.

“I want to shine the spotlight on the blatant piracy going on in this country,” says Napa.

He says there are three main ways people are pirating movies on the island and these are the burning of DVDs not yet released in cinemas for $5 each, the booming business of selling pirated movies on portable hard drives and the unlicensed screening of movies on a local television station.

“These are the issues I want to raise while Hillary Clinton is on the island and for her to send the secret service to sort it out.”
