Immanuela Akatemia held its first-ever squash tournament yesterday from 1.30pm.

Inspired by squash player and teacher Wayne Ralph, the competition was the culmination of two terms worth of squash training. Immanuela is the only school on Rarotonga offering its students squash lessons, Ralph says.

The 12 high school students took to the Avarua courts to compete for a range of prizes sponsored by the squash club.

Theres actually a handful of really good players and we just hope they keep up with it, Ralph said.

The students, aged 13 to 17, had never played squash before this year.
